Meet Our Team

Friendly, experienced clinicians and staff here to look after you and your family

Dr James Whitmore, GP Partner

Dr James Whitmore

GP Partner & Clinical Lead

Dr Whitmore joined Wellow Fields as a GP registrar in 2006 and became a partner five years later. He leads our clinical team and has a particular interest in cardiology and the long-term care of patients living with heart conditions and diabetes.

He grew up in Somerset and is proud to care for three generations of many local families. Dr Whitmore is known for his unhurried consultations and his firm belief that good medicine starts with listening.

Outside the surgery, he is a keen county cricketer for a local village side and a season-ticket holder at Glastonbury Carnival's packed street evenings.
Dr Rachel Bennett, GP Partner

Dr Rachel Bennett

GP Partner, Women's & Men's Health Lead

Dr Bennett has been a GP partner at Wellow Fields since 2012. She leads our women's and men's health clinics, which include cervical screening, contraception, menopause support and same-day sick notes for the workplace.

A former hospital registrar in gynaecology, she decided to move into general practice to build longer relationships with patients. She chairs our patient participation group and is a qualified GP trainer, mentoring the next generation of Somerset doctors.

When she is not at the surgery, Dr Bennett enjoys walking the Mendip Way with her two whippets and serves on the committee of the local primary school.
Sarah Nightingale, Practice Manager

Sarah Nightingale

Practice Manager

Sarah joined the practice as a receptionist in 2009 and worked her way up to Practice Manager in 2016. She runs the day-to-day surgery, oversees our friendly reception team and keeps our patient registers and CQC paperwork in order.

Her priority is making sure appointments run smoothly and that every patient leaves the reception desk confident about their next step in care. She introduced our online booking system and out-of-hours ring-back service last year.

Sarah lives in Street with her two sons, both of whom are registered patients at the practice — a point of pride she mentions far more often than the practice budget.
Dr Amara Wallace, GP and Minor Surgery Lead

Dr Amara Wallace

GP, Minor Surgery & Travel Clinic Lead

Dr Wallace joined Wellow Fields in 2018 after hospital posts in Brighton and Bristol. She heads our on-site minor surgery suite, carrying out joint injections, dermatology procedures and cryotherapy in-house.

She also runs our private travel clinic, advising on malaria prophylaxis and NHS-funded childhood boosters for families heading abroad, and she chairs our vaccination programme each autumn.

Amara is finishing a Masters in Public Health at Bristol University and is a vocal advocate for making rural practices more accessible to patients with mobility needs.
